"Why do we need math anyway?" is a question teachers hear all too often.
Because of this, I wanted to start the year
talking about "math in the real world."
Students brought in examples of real-world math and we created a small display.
Some of the examples they brought were a debit card, a 20% off coupon, a Panera Bread receipt, a receipt with a calculated tip amount, a picture of the sign advertising gas prices, a grocery list, the cost of bananas per pound, and a sample check register.
